PR #476 — Closing Dependabot Alert #7: brace-expansion CVE-2026-13149
The Broader Goal at the End of the Previous PR
PR #479 had just closed the agy jetski investigation with no code fix — a clean stopping point for that thread. Separately, and unrelated to the dispatch-reliability work of #475/#463/#479, Dependabot alert #7 had been sitting open against the website's package-lock.json: a high-severity exponential-time denial-of-service in brace-expansion (CVE-2026-13149, GHSA-3jxr-9vmj-r5cp), triggered by consecutive non-expanding {} groups.
Strategic Shifts in This PR
None — this is routine dependency-security housekeeping, the same pattern as the earlier linkify-it CVE bump (PR #473). No design or spec needed.
What This PR Shipped
A single-line-of-reasoning fix: bump brace-expansion from 1.1.15 to 1.1.16 in website/package-lock.json. It's a transitive, dev-only dependency pulled in via minimatch (used by the @11ty/eleventy build toolchain) — not a direct dependency, so website/package.json itself is untouched. Before merging, the lockfile's integrity hash was verified independently against the live npm registry (https://registry.npmjs.org/brace-expansion/1.1.16) rather than trusted on the strength of the version bump alone — it matched exactly. Full pytest suite (1378 passed, 2 skipped) confirmed no regressions from the bump. Squashed to 75078a8 on 2026-07-24.
This PR sat as a rebase-pending worktree across the #475/#479 investigation thread — its branch had drifted one commit behind origin/main after #479 merged, so before dispatching the check it was rebased cleanly onto the new main tip and force-pushed with --force-with-lease.
Brainstorm Visuals Used
None — a dependency version bump doesn't warrant a brainstorming session.
What This Achieved on the Path to Autonomy
Not directly related to multi-agent dispatch autonomy — this is baseline repo hygiene, keeping the website build toolchain free of known high-severity vulnerabilities. It's included in this session's arc mainly because its PR check ran into, and reconfirmed, the same environment-specific Codex-sandbox limitation (sqlite3.OperationalError: unable to open database file when synlynk pr check runs from inside a Codex dispatch subprocess sandbox, vs. a clean pass every time the identical command runs directly in the same worktree) already seen on two other PRs this session — now a well-established, non-blocking quirk rather than a real defect signal.
Strategic Note: The Goal at the End of This PR
With #475, #479, and #476 all merged, this session's active threads are closed. The next housekeeping items surfaced afterward — this trio's own missing blog posts (this post and the two preceding it), a cost-log backfill for the dispatched jobs and manual investigation work this session incurred, and a still-untouched batch of 7 unclassified stale dispatch job branches from an earlier triage — are tracked as the follow-up docs/housekeeping PR this post itself is part of.
